If you own a campervan then it is quite likely that you will also possess a car for everyday use. If that is the case, you will be pleased to read that the average cost of car insurance has fallen once again according to the Confused.com Car Insurance Price Index that is produced on a quarterly basis.
The latest index was published on the 17th September 2025 and covered the 3 months from June 2025 to August 2025. As at the end of August 2025 the average premium for car insurance amounted to £735 per annum. This was a drop of £136 per annum in comparison to 12 months ago with this equating to a fall of 16%. You will no doubt agree this is a large reduction and one that will be welcomed by motorists. It is to be hoped that, whilst the above index relates to car insurance, there may also have been a drop in the cost of insuring a campervan. Even when compared to the previous quarter, there was a fall of £22 per annum.
There are still quite a lot of people in the UK who are struggling in the current financial climate so any potential good news on the financial front has got to be welcomed.
When car insurance companies decide how much to charge their policyholders they look at a variety of things. For instance, what is the make and model of the car, how many miles will the car be driven in a year, what type of cover is required such as fully comprehensive or third party, fire and theft, the age of the driver and where the driver resides.
It is a well-known fact that, on average, it is the younger motorist who is likely to be involved in a road traffic accident rather than a mature, experienced driver. So, insurers tend to charge young motorist more to insure their cars. For example, a 60 year old pays an average of £494 per annum whereas a 18 year old pays an average of £2,342 per annum. As you can see, this is a very big difference.
On average, those living in Inner London pay more to insure their cars than anywhere else in the UK with premiums averaging £1,149 per annum. That figure has dropped by £228 per annum in the space of a year. If you reside in the North East then premiums average £646 per annum. Those living in the South West pay an average of £499 per annum with this sum having dropped by £82 per annum in a year.
