Owners of campervans possibly do quite a bit of touring around England, Scotland and Wales over the years and some will go further afield to Europe and beyond. Well, some research has recently been undertaken by Ordnance Survey about the average number of counties adults have visited in their lifetime in the above three British countries.
Apparently, there are 84 counties in the above three countries. Would you be surprised to read that, of a survey of 2,000 adults, it was discovered that on average he or she only visited ten of them in their lifetime. We don’t know what you think but that does seem rather low. Of course, it would be great if we had some figures relating to how many counties people in campervans visited over many years.
The five counties that were at the top of those visited were all in England. In 1st place was Greater London at 36%, in 2nd place was Greater Manchester at 31%, in joint 3rd place was Norfolk at 25% and North Yorkshire at 25% and in 5th place was Kent at 23%.
In Scotland the top two were City of Edinburgh at 23% and Glasgow City at 21%.
In Wales the top county was Gwynedd at 7%
It may be that if a survey was carried out with campervan holidaymakers that they may favour visiting either costal or countryside destinations rather than cities. Of course, there are some delightful places to visit in our cities but, as a general rule, it is quite possible that campervan owners or people hiring a campervan prefer to spend a larger period of their holiday in scenic locations.
More information about the research can be located on the website of Ordnance Survey. Their article really does make for interesting reading.
