If you look in the Highway Code and peruse rule 57 you will see that it states: –<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly. A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The above makes it quite clear what you need to do with your dog when driving to your holiday destination. If you don\u2019t restrain your dog then the potential penalties may be quite high. If you are found to be driving without due care and attention you could get some penalty points added to your driving license. You could be fined up to \u00a35,000 \u2013 that is a sizeable sum of money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you were involved in an accident whilst driving your campervan and it was felt that your dog could have distracted you then your campervan insurance provider could refuse to meet your claim on your policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As you can see from the above rule, there are a number of ways that you can restrain your dog in your campervan. The one you choose is up to you but you will no doubt be keen to make sure that your dog is kept as comfortable as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hopefully, you will have enough space to say use a pet cage as this should provide some space for your dog to move about in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is perhaps worth mentioning that if you are buying your first campervan you will need campervan insurance.
