Isn\u2019t the year going quickly? If you own a campervan then it is quite possible that you are going to lay up your leisure vehicle over the winter period although some of you may brave the inclement weather that we tend to get in the winter and still take a holiday or two in your campervan. For those of you who are going to stop venturing out in your campervan then we thought we would provide some tips about what you should consider doing with your vehicle during this period to help protect it from the elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first thing you will probably want to consider is where to store your campervan during the winter months. There will not be many of you who have a garage large enough to store your campervan completely away from the bad winter weather. You will then need to decide if you prefer to keep your campervan at home or drive it a few miles to a secure storage location. If you choose the latter option then you will wish to undertake your research to check what sort of security is in place such as a 24 hour security guard, security cameras and locked gates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you are going to keep the vehicle at home then your choice is likely to be whether to park it on your well-lit drive or under a light on the street outside your home. The former is probably the better option as it is probably less likely to be stolen or hit by a passing vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wherever it is stored, you should consider using the likes of a wheel clamp and a steering wheel lock to reduce the possibility of it being stolen. You may also wish to consider investing in a breathable cover for your campervan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You should make sure that appropriate water is removed from the campervan to avoid it freezing up and causing damage. Make sure that all taps are left open. Empty the toilet canister and make sure that it is thoroughly cleaned out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You do not want your campervan to get any mould in it as this can cause damage. So, make sure that all perishable food and drink are removed from the campervan including the fridge. Thoroughly wash down all work surfaces with suitable cleaning products. Clean out the fridge and leave the door of the fridge slightly ajar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Consider removing things like cushions from the campervan and remove and wash and dry all bed linen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The batteries should be fully charged and consider taking your campervan out for the occasional drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tyres should be fully inflated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Take the handbrake off, put in gear and use wheel chocks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Make sure that all gas cylinders are safely maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
