One of the obvious differences between a campervan and a car is that the former is probably going to be both longer, wider and higher than most cars. In view of this, driving a campervan presents a number of challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Having purchased your new campervan it would be a good idea to attend a beginners driving course. Having done that, why not take the vehicle out on one or two major roads and initially avoid narrow B roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you are going to have to drive under a bridge then make sure that the campervan is not too high to do this. In some instances you might need to find an alternative route or drive under the centre of a bridge that arches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Don\u2019t forget that your campervan will probably be a bit heavier than your car so it will take longer to stop it in an emergency. So, please make sure that you keep a safe distance from the vehicle that is in front of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When turning the campervan be aware of its extra length and width. So, be particularly careful when going around bends, roundabouts and pulling away at junctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
How about driving your campervan to a retail park when nobody is about and practice reversing and parking in a parking space. Better to do this with nobody observing you so you don\u2019t get embarrassed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Check that your campervan is in good working order. Are the fluids topped up i.e. oil, brake, windscreen washer reservoir and antifreeze? Are your tyres in a good state and above the legal tread limit and is the tyre pressure correct? Are the brakes working correctly? Are the lights all working?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Drive at a safe speed limit for the weather conditions taking into account the wind, rain, snow and ice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is to be hoped that your first break in your campervan is an enjoyable one, you do not encounter any problems and arrive back home safely looking forward to your nest trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
