If you own a campervan, one thing you cannot avoid having to do is to put either petrol or diesel in the fuel tank otherwise you won\u2019t be travelling far. Unfortunately, in part due to the war affecting a number of Middle East countries, the price of a barrel of oil has rocketed with one of the knock on effects of this being an increase in fuel prices being seen as petrol stations around the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of course, regrettably this is something you could do without but it is outside your control. However, there are a number of things you could do that may help you lower the amount of fuel that you use in your campervan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For instance, make sure that your tyres on your motorhome are of the correct pressure as, for instance, an under-inflated tyre may lead to you using more fuel than normal. It is also a safety risk as it could affect your maneuverability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When you pull away from say a set of traffic lights in your campervan don\u2019t put your accelerator pedal to the floor straight away. Accelerate gradually and in a safe manner moving through the gears at the appropriate moment. Doing this should mean that you use less petrol or diesel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you are on the motorway, rather than drive at 70mph, why not reduce your speed and drive at say 55mph. Yes, it may take you longer to get to your destination but you will hopefully use less fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Be conscious of the weight of what you are loading in your campervan as the more weight you are carrying the more fuel you will use. So, only carry what you are really going to need especially as some of the things such as food you will no doubt be able to purchase whilst you are on holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If your campervan is of an age where it comes fitted with a cruise control then consider using it if you are on a flat road surface such as a motorway or dual carriageway as maintaining a fuel efficient constant speed may result in you using less fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A way of lowering how much you spend on fuel is to shop around to find a petrol station that is lower in price by a few pence a litre. You can find this information on the Internet these days quite quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
