The financial climate here in the UK and in many countries around the world is still a tough one so very few people would like to hear that car insurance premiums have increased but that is exactly what happened in the 3 months to the 31st<\/sup> May 2026 according to the above index.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The average fully comprehensive car insurance premium as at the end of May 2026 amounted to \u00a3719 per annum. Unfortunately, that was \u00a38 per annum more than 3 months prior to that. That is only a modest increase but it is the first rise since the 31st<\/sup> December 2023. It is to be hoped that we do not continue to see premiums rise \u2013 in fact, let us hope that premiums start to reduce once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On a positive note, when looking at what car insurance premiums were 12 months prior, the average cost of car insurance has gone down by \u00a338 per annum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The above index reveals that 49% of 2,000 drivers in the UK who took part in a survey who received a renewal quote in the previous 3 months found that their car insurance premium was going to increase. Not far off 46% of those motorists got a better deal with a different car insurance provider when shopping around. Only 22% of those 2,000 drivers received a lower priced renewal quotation but 17% of those shopped around and got cheaper cover elsewhere. It just goes to show that for some motorists it is worth checking if you can get a better deal elsewhere and it doesn\u2019t take too much effort to find out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There are a lot of factors that decide how much you will be charged to insure your car such as how old you are and where you live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For instance, someone in the age bracket 17 to 20 will pay an average of \u00a31,813 per annum yet someone in the age bracket 50 to 59 will pay an average of \u00a3552 per annum. As you can see, there is a huge difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you live in the South West of the UK then, on average, your car insurance premium will be \u00a3504 per annum \u2013 the cheapest in the UK.
