You only have to turn your TV or radio on and it is quite likely that you will hear about another piece of land that has caught fire as we have witnessed very hot temperatures here in the UK that we did not used to come across very often. It now seems to becoming the norm rather than the exception and it is the view of many people that it is something we are going to have to cope with on a regular basis from now on in the summer months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is perhaps worth considering how you may be able to help prevent the outbreak of a fire when you are on holiday in your motorhome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you are on a campsite then it is worth noting that you should not park within 6 meters of another campervan or leisure vehicle to reduce the possibility of a fire that breaks out in your campervan being @transferred@ to a neighboring leisure vehicle or tent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You should ensure that you have one or more smoke alarms in your campervan and that it is working as a way to hopefully forewarn you of a fire that has started in your campervan. It gives you the opportunity to potentially put the fire out assuming it is safe to do so but firstly to get everybody out of the campervan to a place of safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Make sure that you have suitable fire extinguishers on board the campervan to help put out a fire \u2013 again, assuming it is safe to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Make sure that any foam in cushions, upholstery and mattresses are flame retardant to help reduce the possibility of a fire starting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you smoke then be careful how you discard of used matches and cigarettes to avoid the possibility of a fire starting. Remember, due to the hot weather with little rain being seen in most parts of the UK a discarded cigarette that has not been fully extinguished could quickly start a bush fire that may spread rapidly putting other peoples\u201d lives at risk as well as animals lives and other property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Currently you are not permitted to use barbecues outside but should their come the time when you are allowed to do so please take great care whilst using and putting out the barbecue. Yes, beef burgers and sausages may taste lovely when cooked over a barbecue but for the time being just stick to cooking them in your oven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
