Many of you who own a campervan are also likely to possess a car for everyday use although there will probably be a limited number of you who use your campervan all the time. You may find it of interest to read that according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI) a record sum was paid out by motor insurers to meet claims during the 2nd<\/sup> quarter of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Q2 of 2026 such insurance companies paid out a record \u00a33.2 billion was paid out in the 2nd<\/sup> quarter of this year. This was a rise of 7% when compared with the same quarter in 2025 and was an increase of 5% in comparison with the 1st<\/sup> quarter of 2026. Some of you may feel that that is an awful lot of money to have been paid out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One would have thought that motor insurance premiums would have increased by a similar percentage as a result of the increase in claims payouts but this was not the case. Apparently, in the same quarter, the average premium for motor insurance policies rose by only 1% with this equating to an average rise of \u00a36 per annum to an average of \u00a3566 per annum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another interesting statistic is that the average amount paid out per motor insurance claim amounted to \u00a34,900. This was a rise of 4% when compared with the previous quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are no doubt a number of reasons why motor insurance claims payouts increased but one of those is likely to be due to modern vehicles being fitted with quite sophisticated equipment. For instance, you only have to follow a newish car in the dark and you will often see a huge array of red lights that, from a security point of view, is positive but the cost of replacing such lighting in the event of the lights being damaged in a road traffic accident is probably going to be quite high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The average cost of repairing a windscreen rose to \u00a3283 in the 2nd<\/sup> quarter of 2026 with this being a 7% rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
