Should You Buy A New Or Used Campervan?

If you are considering purchasing a campervan then one of the biggest decisions you will need to make is whether to buy a new one or a used one. Often, the decision is based upon your budget as, let’s be honest, most people would prefer to own a new leisure vehicle.

If you purchase a new campervan then it should last longer than a used one. It is less likely to break down or require maintenance to the bodywork for many more years to come. It will hopefully come with a warranty covering an extended period of time providing you with peace of mind for a lengthy period. So, if it breaks down after you have had it for only say 9 months hopefully you will be covered. It will no doubt come with various mod cons that you may not get as many of with a 10 year old campervan. It may be more fuel efficient. You may feel more confident in taking a new campervan abroad than you would with a used one as it is less likely to break down.

However, it is worth bearing in mind that a second hand campervan is unlikely to loose as much value as a result of depreciation as a new campervan as a new one tends to loose a significant percentage of its value in the first year or so of it being purchased.

Obviously, when comparing the same make and model of campervan, when it comes to the purchase price a new campervan is going to cost quite a bit more than a used one depending upon such things as the difference in age. As we intimated above, this is often the major reason why someone decides to buy either a new or used campervan. If you are wealthy and are able to pay cash for a new campervan then you are possibly more likely to make such a purchase than someone who has to watch every pound they spend and requires finance to complete the purchase. However, someone buying a second hand campervan may get as much pleasure out of it as someone else who buys a brand new campervan.
