Tips For Driving Your Campervan

If you are new to owning a campervan then you may feel a little nervous about getting behind the wheel and driving off in what is possibly going to be a larger vehicle than what you are used to driving. So, if that is the case, here are a few tips to make the experience more enjoyable.

Allow yourself extra time to get to your destination. If your satnav says it will take you 5 hours to get to your holiday destination why not allow an extra hour. Having done that, if you get caught up in a traffic jam on the motorway, you will hopefully not feel stressed whilst sitting in your campervan with your family getting concerned that you may not make it tour campsite in day light. Allowing more time also means that you can take your foot off the pedal a little and travel a few miles slower than normal. This may also save on fuel costs.

Talking about slowing down, make sure that you are up to date with the speed limits appropriate to your campervan. After all, you don’t want to find you end up breaking the speed limit and then getting a speeding fine. It is an expense you could do without especially in the current economic climate.

Make sure that your wing mirrors are set correctly providing maximum vision to things behind or by the side of your campervan.

The size of your campervan may concern you in the beginning but you will hopefully soon get used to it and adjust the way you drive accordingly. Be conscious of having a longer and wider vehicle when you park between 2 vehicles on the roadside. Be aware of its length when reversing. Take your time when going around corners and roundabouts as your campervan is almost certainly going to be higher than a car.

Make sure that everything is working correctly such as the lights, windscreen wipers and tyres at the correct pressure. Have you checked the oil level and is the windscreen washer fluid reservoir full.

Wherever you are making for in your campervan, we hope that you have a trouble free journey both there and back.
