There are an awful lot of families here in the UK who are struggling financially and this may well be the case for quite some time to come. We all need a holiday to relax and unwind but if you are on a limited budget what sort of things can you do to enjoy a campervan holiday and keep costs down?
Well, as a general rule, the larger the campervan the more it costs to hire a campervan for a week or two. So, give some thought to how much space you will require in the campervan and rent one that is just large enough to meet your basic requirements.
The more you put in the campervan to take away with you such as toys, clothes etc then the more weight your campervan will have to cope with. The greater the weight the more fuel you will use. So, make sure that you only pack what you need. Do you really need 3 pairs of shoes and 2 pairs of boots? Do you need to carry a couple of dozen cans of beer after all you can probably buy them when you are away on holiday.
Be selective about where you buy your fuel trying to locate some of the cheapest priced fuel around. You may be surprised just how much you may be able to save in fuel costs. Do your research to identify petrol and diesel fuel stations that supply lower priced fuel. You may well be going to travel quite a few miles on your family holiday so a significant saving could possibly be made by you.
If you are prepared to travel out of season it is quite possible that the rental cost of a campervan is going to be less than if you travel at the height of summer. So, consider travelling during off peak periods and not within school holidays.
If you are going to stay on one or more campsites you will be pleased to read that there are lots and lots of campsites where you can park your campervan up for the night. Do a bit of research and try to source a campsite that provides you with the services you need but at a reasonable price. After all, do you really need to have a swimming pool on site?
Tempting as it is to eat out in say a pub every night of your family holiday why not consider spending a few nights of your holiday eating in. It is probably going to be so much cheaper to do this.
We do hope that we can give you some food for thought when it comes to enjoying a campervan holiday but on a budget.
