Buying a campervan may involve a significant capital outlay so you really should consider a number of security measures to reduce the possibility of it being stolen by a thief. So, what things could you consider to reduce the likelihood of it being stolen?
Well, where you store your campervan is an important thing to consider. It would be great if you had somewhere within reasonable distance from your home that is a secure compound with a security guard on duty, a good alarm system and security camera coverage. However, if this is not possible and you keep your campervan at home, be careful where you park it. Ideally, try to park it on your drive in close proximity to your home where it is lit up at night. If at all possible, try not to park it in the street outside your home but if you do try to park it under a streetlight.
If your campervan doesn’t already have an alarm fitted then consider having one fitted for you. Make sure there is a sticker say on the windows advertising the fact that an alarm is fitted. Hopefully this will deter the would be campervan thief.
How about buying a wheel clamp and make sure that you use it whenever you are away from the vehicle even if it is for a few minutes. It may only take a thief a few seconds to gain access to the vehicle and drive away.
A steering lock is also worth considering. Again, this is a visible deterrent. Make sure that you buy a good quality one.
Consider investing in a tracking device. You only have to go on the Internet to read about a number of leisure vehicles being stolen. Having a tracking device fitted increases the possibility of your campervan being located and returned to you undamaged.
