Here in the UK, the cost of living continues to rise for many people. Mortgage repayments are still high for a large number of homeowners and utility bills have been on the increase. The cost of a family going away on holiday to say a number of overseas resort/hotel locations as well as some in the UK can prove prohibitive.
So, have you considered comparing the cost of the above type of holiday with hiring a campervan for your family? It could be an option worth exploring.
Renting a campervan also provides you and your family with the flexibility to tour around a variety of places in the UK and even into Europe. Ideally, you should plan your holiday selecting what towns, cities and places to visit over the period of your holiday and also choose which campsites to spend a night or two at. Yes, you could possibly just turn up at a campsite in the hope that there is a spare pitch but popular campsites often fill up in the summer months.
You may have a choice of campervan sizes available to hire. If there are 4 of you then obviously you will need as a minimum a 4 berth campervan but if you can afford it you may prefer to go for a slightly larger leisure vehicle to give you and your family more space to move around in.
If you are able to arrange your holiday out of season then you may find it is cheaper to hire a campervan than in the summer period but, especially if you are staying in the UK, you are dependent upon the weather, Of course, you may not be bothered about encountering one or two wet days on your campervan holiday.
Dependent upon your budget, you may be able to decide if you want to hire a fairly new campervan equipped with all mod-coms or a cheaper older one that provides you and your family with an acceptable level of comfort.
Of course, a campervan provides both the means to travel from A to B as well as the living accommodation. If it came to it and you were legally allowed to do so then you may be able to get off the beaten track and do some wild camping.
Who knows, if you and your family really take to hiring out a campervan then at some point you might like to consider buying one but if you didn’t particularly enjoy this type of holiday you have really only had to pay for the cost of hiring the vehicle etc for a one-off holiday.
