Campervan Weight Limit Petition

It is obvious just by looking at a campervan that it is going to weigh more than a family car. However, it is interesting that you can drive a campervan up to 3,500 kg when you are in possession of a category B car driving license without any further training. Having said that, quite a few people decide to avail themselves of a short driving course when buying a campervan to provide extra peace of mind.

Apparently, a petition has been raised to try to have the weight limit increased to 4,250Kkg to drive a campervan just when you possess the above type of driving license. Over 4,000 people have apparently added their names to the petition.

Of course, we presume that such a petition would be supported by the likes of retailers of new and used campervans as this would present them with the opportunity to sell a larger campervan for an increased price thus generating greater profit for their business.

Some campervan models have possibly got heavier over the years as more and more leisure vehicle owners want increased living space inside the campervan as well as more luxurious fitments such as well-equipped toilet facilities plus a kitchen equipped with the likes of a hob, oven, fridge and who knows perhaps even a small dishwasher.

Perhaps, if we see an increasing number of electric campervans being sold, they will possibly weigh more than a diesel or petrol fuelled campervan so this is something that perhaps needs to be borne in mind.

Let us not forget about insuring a campervan. Potentially, the premium to insure a larger, heavier campervan may cost more than that of a campervan weighing less than 3,250 kg? At a time when many people are struggling financially there will be some people who decide not to buy a heavier campervan if their insurance cost is going to possibly go up.

In this respect, why not get in touch with us with a view to obtaining a competitive campervan insurance quote without any obligation.
