Those of you who are the proud owner of a campervan are more than likely to also drive around on a daily basis in a car whether that is to commute to work or pop into town to the supermarket to do some shopping. If you do then you may be interested to hear that, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), a record sum was paid out by motor insurance companies to meet claims on cars in Q1 of 2025.
In the above quarter, providers of car insurance paid out £3.2 billion to meet claims. We are sure you will agree that is an extremely large sum of money.
Of that figure, £2.1 billion was paid out to meet the repair costs of vehicles. Unfortunately, some repair costs have gone up such as the cost of spare car parts and salaries paid to staff working in the likes of car body repair shops.
Did you know that the average payout relating to the theft of a vehicle or the theft of items within a car amounted to £11,300?
Of course, somebody has to pay the insurance companies for these claims and it is the motorist who does this when they pay their car insurance premiums. So, is there anything that the policyholder can do to help contain or reduce the cost of their car insurance?
Well, when you are driving around in your car or your campervan, drive with care giving consideration to other vehicles and make sure that you keep within whatever speed limit is appropriate for the road you are on. Make sure that you do not leave items on the front or back seat of your vehicle when left unattended – put items in the boot instead so they are less likely to be stolen. Try to park your car in as safe a place as possible whenever you leave it.
